About Sardinia

Sardinia is not just another beach destination; it's a micro-continent. The glittering Costa Smeralda is famous, but the island's true soul lies in its wild interior, its mysterious nuraghi (ancient stone fortresses), and its unique traditions. It's an island of shepherds, centenarians, and coastlines so beautiful they feel prehistoric. You can't just land here and find the magic. A local plan is essential to unlock the real Sardinia, from the best agriturismo to the most secluded beach.

Best Time to Visit

June or September. You get all the beach-weather benefits without the peak-season prices and crowds of July and August. The spring (April-May) is also beautiful for hiking.

Local Tips

  1. Go beyond the "Emerald Coast." The Costa Smeralda is for yachts. A local will direct you to the Gulf of Orosei (like the famous Cala Luna) or the Sinis Peninsula for equally stunning—but far more natural—beaches.
  2. The best food isn't on the coast. The true Sardinian cuisine is in the hills. Ask a local to book an agriturismo in the Barbagia region for a traditional shepherd's feast of porceddu (roast suckling pig).
  3. Explore prehistoric mysteries. Instead of just sunbathing, explore the history. A local knows the most impressive Nuraghi settlements, like Su Nuraxi di Barumini, that pre-date ancient Rome by millennia.

I am Damiano Usala, born in Cagliari and raised in the city (somehow I lived in London, Florence and Olbia). The last 15 years I have been working in tourism. First as a web marketer (blog editor/social media manager and copy), then as a travel agent and tour operator (hiking/bike tour) and finally - last 6 years - as a teacher (cooking class in Cagliari) for culinary sessions for tourists, corporate teams, or locals.

Hi! My name is Walter, I'm 38 years old and I live in Cagliari, the capital of the beautiful island of Sardinia. My family has had Sardinian roots for many generations and, like many Italians, we are deeply attached to our hometown. Many people ask me why my name is of German origin, but you know, in Italy we love international names! Like all native Sardinians, I love my homeland and know it inside and out — its places, traditions, and customs. Over the past 20 years, many visitors have been discovering the historical, architectural, and natural beauty of my city, and I will be happy to provide you with any information you need to make your visit authentic and complete. I have a degree in Political Science and International Relations, specializing in Social Innovation and Communication, and I have been working as a tour leader here in Cagliari for four years. Before that, I worked for 15 years in the retail sector promoting Sardinia's excellent food and wine, so I can also guide you through the selection of traditional dishes and drinks. I consider myself an eclectic person because I love many things, and I want to experience those I don't know yet. I'm an athlete and practice volleyball, soccer, and running. I love traveling, eating, and enjoying life while respecting nature and people. Contact me to help you plan your trip to Sardinia — I'll be happy to provide you with any information you need. :)
