Agrigento
The Valley of the Temples—ancient Greek ruins rivalling Athens, glowing golden on a Sicilian ridge.

About Agrigento
Agrigento's Valley of the Temples is one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world. A ridge lined with remarkably preserved Greek temples—built in the 5th century BC when this was the wealthy colony of Akragas—stretches for over a kilometre against a backdrop of almond and olive trees. The Temple of Concordia is one of the best-preserved Greek temples anywhere, better even than most in Greece itself. The modern town above has an appealing medieval quarter and the birthplace museum of Luigi Pirandello, the Nobel Prize-winning playwright. The surrounding countryside produces pistachios, almonds, and excellent wine, while the nearby Scala dei Turchi—a dramatic white limestone cliff—provides one of Sicily's most photogenic swimming spots.
Best Time to Visit
February for the almond blossom festival among the temples. April to June or September to October for pleasant sightseeing. Summer evenings at the illuminated temples are spectacular but hot.
Local Tips
- See the temples at sunset.
The temples glow golden as the sun sets behind them. A local will plan your visit for late afternoon, starting at the easternmost temple and walking west as the light intensifies to its most dramatic.
- Visit during almond blossom.
In February, the valley explodes with pink and white almond blossoms around the ancient columns. A local will combine the temple visit with the Sagra del Mandorlo in Fiore folk festival.
- Swim at Scala dei Turchi.
This dramatic white marl cliff formation near Agrigento is like swimming off a natural staircase. A local knows the access points, the best time to avoid crowds, and where to find lunch in the nearby village of Realmonte.

Hi there! I am Greta. I’m naturally curious and like to explore and understand new things, which is why I’ve studied in different areas such as philosophy, HR, yoga, communication, etc. I’d describe myself as passionate and straightforward. I love to connect with people, places, idea. I’m a problem solver and fully committed to finding solutions, even unconventional ones. I value clarity and simplicity. I used to guide groups across Italy, and over the past few years I’ve been based in Sicily, working as a licensed local guide. I design experiences tailored to each traveler, combining local insight with practical planning. If I don’t know something, I’ll tell you directly - and hen find the right answer!. In my free time, I’m drawn to slow, local experiences - walking through small villages, discovering hidden food spots, and talking to people who have a story to tell. I enjoy observing details that others might overlook, from daily life scenes to small cultural habits. I like simple, well-designed things.

Hi! I’m Stefania—but you can call me Ste 🌻 I’m a travel advisor born and raised in Noto, Sicily 🇮🇹 which basically means I grew up surrounded by baroque beauty, incredible food, and a very strong sense of what’s actually worth your time (and what’s not). I know the places that don’t show up on Google, the beaches you almost want to gatekeep, and the kind of local spots where you’ll still be thinking about the food months later. I also lived in Perugia for three years, which gave me a whole new perspective on Italy beyond the South. Add to that my travels, especially across the north of Spain and many Italian cities and you get someone who understands both sides: the traveller’s expectations and the local reality. So no, I won’t send you to the most “famous” place… I’ll send you to the right one!
