Brescia
An industrial city with a Roman temple, a medieval castle, and UNESCO-listed monastic treasures.

About Brescia
Brescia rarely appears on tourist itineraries, which is a mistake. This prosperous Lombard city hides remarkable Roman ruins—including a 1st-century AD Capitolium temple with original mosaic floors—alongside a UNESCO World Heritage monastic complex at Santa Giulia that traces 3,000 years of history. The hilltop castle is one of the largest fortified complexes in Italy, and the old town's elegant piazzas are lined with Renaissance loggias and baroque palaces. Brescia is also the start of the legendary Mille Miglia vintage car race (held every May), and the surrounding Franciacorta wine region produces Italy's finest sparkling wines—the country's answer to Champagne.
Best Time to Visit
April to October. May brings the Mille Miglia vintage car race through the city centre. Summer offers Franciacorta wine touring and Lake Iseo swimming. Autumn is harvest season in the vineyards.
Local Tips
- Visit Santa Giulia museum.
This UNESCO-listed monastery complex spans 3,000 years—from a Bronze Age plough to Romanesque frescoes. A local will navigate the vast collection and show you the Winged Victory and the stunning Lombard-era crypt.
- Tour Franciacorta.
Italy's premier sparkling wine region is just south of Brescia. A local can arrange tastings at the elegant estates of Ca' del Bosco, Bellavista, and smaller family producers who pour their best vintages by appointment.
- See the Mille Miglia start.
Every May, hundreds of vintage cars roar through Brescia's streets for the start of Italy's most famous road race. A local knows the best viewing spots and the pre-race exhibition in the piazza.

Miriam

Naples, Sorrento +3
Hi, I’m Miriam! With a soul split between Lake Garda and Naples, I’m probably the most "all-around" Italian guide you’ll find. I’ve spent 3+ years showing the secrets of Naples to curious travelers. As a singer-songwriter who started performing on these very streets as a child, I know every corner of this city like the back of my hand. I combine my passion for music and local cuisine to create authentic itineraries. Want to discover the true heart of Neapolitan culture? Let’s explore together!
Nandor

Como, Milan +3
I help travelers discover the Italian Lakes, from the villages of Lake Como to the streets of Milan through the stories that shaped them. I’m Nándor, a professional tour leader and guide based in Northern Italy, guiding travelers across Milan, Lake Como, and Lago Maggiore. Originally from Hungary, I’ve spent years leading tours across Europe and now focus on sharing the culture, landscapes, and hidden corners of Northern Italy. I love connecting places with the history behind them, from Milan’s historic streets to medieval lake towns, monasteries, and mountain viewpoints I’m also passionate about storytelling and games. I design immersive experiences and enjoy board games, strategy games, and historical stories, which means I naturally approach travel as a journey full of characters, history, and discovery. When I’m not guiding, you’ll usually find me kayaking on Lago Maggiore, hiking in the hills above the lake, or researching the region's medieval history.
