Sanremo
The Italian Riviera's queen of elegance—flowers, casino, and the famous song festival.

About Sanremo
Sanremo radiates Belle Époque glamour. This Ligurian resort town has been attracting aristocrats, artists, and sun-seekers since the 19th century, drawn by its exceptionally mild microclimate—palm trees and exotic flowers thrive here even in winter. The Casino Municipale has been the town's social epicentre since 1905, and the Festival della Canzone Italiana (held every February) is Italy's most-watched cultural event. Beyond the glamour, the medieval La Pigna quarter climbs steeply from the seafront in a tangle of vaulted passages and ancient houses, offering a stark contrast to the palm-lined promenades below. Sanremo is also the finish line of the Milan-Sanremo cycling classic, one of the sport's oldest races.
Best Time to Visit
February for the Sanremo Music Festival atmosphere. March to June for flower markets and garden visits. September to October for warm seas without summer crowds.
Local Tips
- Explore La Pigna.
The medieval old town above the glamorous seafront is a labyrinth of vaulted alleys and hidden piazzas. A local will guide you through the atmospheric passages to the Madonna della Costa church at the top.
- Visit the flower market.
Sanremo's flower industry supplies much of Europe. A local can arrange an early morning visit to the wholesale flower market and the greenhouses where roses, carnations, and exotic plants are cultivated.
- Cycle the Pista Ciclabile.
The Riviera cycling path follows the old railway line along the coast for 24km. A local knows the best stretches, the beach stops along the way, and where to rent bikes.

Francesca
Sanremo, Genoa +3
Hi there! My name is Francesca. I’m twenty-three years old, and I’m passionate about arts, languages, and genuine connections. At the moment, I’m majoring in economics and communication for tourism in Lugano, Switzerland. Originally from Sanremo, I grew up on the Ligurian coast, where I lived for 18 years before moving to Turin to start college. I know Liguria quite well—I loved exploring new places there, and I also lived in quite a number of cities while growing up. I love sharing its culture and hidden gems with people who are not yet familiar with this beautiful region. Because I lived in Turin for almost four years during college, I also feel confident in my knowledge of its best local trattorias, must-visit corners and neighborhoods, and how to get the best views of the city’s skyline. Additionally, I’m half-Brazilian on my mom’s side, so I can also provide explanations in Portuguese if needed!
