My Top 3 Restaurants in Bologna for a Truly Special Evening
The Voyage Co.
As a mother and wife in Bologna, date nights are precious. When we go out, we want something truly special — food that makes us feel like we're celebrating something. These are my three favourite places for those evenings.
Sara has a family, so her favourite way to have a date night with her husband is to enjoy a very special dinner — something they would never be able to cook at home.
1. Via Con Me
Bologna
The atmosphere here is exactly what we want for a special night. The restaurant has this elegant but comfortable feeling, like you're somewhere important but also somewhere you belong. The wine list is amazing, carefully chosen to complement the food.
What I love most is the seasonal menu. It changes, which means they're working with what's available, respecting the seasons. Every ingredient tastes like someone thought about it carefully. The portions are perfect — not too much, not too little — leaving you satisfied and happy.
2. I Sette Tavoli
Bologna
The name means "Seven Tables," and that tells you everything. This is intimate and cosy. There are literally seven tables in the restaurant, so the atmosphere is warm and personal. The menu is different from the typical Bologna restaurants, which I appreciate.
They make choices about what to serve, and every choice reflects care. It's not the predictable dishes; it's creative food that still respects local traditions. My husband and I always feel like we've discovered something special when we come here.
3. Oltre
Bologna
Oltre is my pick for the most romantic dinner. It's fancy in the way that makes you feel special, not overdone. The restaurant has this beautiful energy — elegant but not pretentious. The menu is local but with less traditional preparations, so you taste Bologna differently.
This is where we go when we really want to mark something, celebrate something. The food is excellent, the service is attentive, and you leave feeling happy and connected.
Bologna is the food capital of Italy for a reason — but the city's tortellini and tagliatelle don't have to be eaten in elbow-to-elbow trattorias. Book a table at one of these three on a Friday night and Bologna will give you the romantic, elegant version of itself.
